The Christ Perspective

When one suffers from a chronic condition that has pain as an element-one needs to be on guard as he or she begins the day.  Having myself been one who is suffering a debilitating chronic pain condition in my right eye for the last twenty-five years as a result from an eye accident in 1981.  This accident involved an ice pick going into my right eye.  With God's grace I did not lose the eye.  My chronic pain began in 1991 following a lens implant in that right eye.  As a result of that surgery I now see up to seven images out of my right eye.  This condition results in intense pain in the eye itself and extremely painful headaches.  Recently I’ve been diagnosed of having the disease CRPS, Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, permanent nerve damage within the eye itself.

With this brief introduction behind us, I would like now to get to today's blog entry.  Every morning, despite the pain level one is experiencing nor the amount of sleep one received the night before-the need to check my self's perspective for the coming day is crucial in preparing myself to have the best day possible, regardless of my pain level.

In preparing myself for the day, I will assess my pain level and overall health.  However, regardless of my pain level I will approach God in prayer and go to His word.  I will request in my prayer that He will give me the right (His) perspective for the day.  His perspective being, regardless of my pain level, that I will and continue to keep my focus on Christ and His will for that day, as well as, for the rest of my life.  I, having experienced enough days where I didn't seek Christ's perspective, and I have paid for that neglect emotionally and spiritually.  Also, it's important to keep in mind that when I neglect this important aspect of my day, the loved ones around me will also be affected.

In conclusion, it's not just good, but absolutely necessary, as a Christian, to beyond just assess your pain level and taking stock of your overall health, but to seek God out in prayer, go to His word and seek the perspective that God wants me to have for the day, not mine, but His-the Christ perspective.
